The Buoys don’t fuck around. It feels like just yesterday the band were releasing their ‘All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere’ EP, and now they’re back with yet another belting single, ‘Lie To Me Again’.
And here’s the kicker; not only are they establishing themselves as one of Sydney’s most prolific bands, they’re also evolving and expanding with each release.
Here, on the second single taken from their upcoming ‘Unsolicited Advice For Your DIY Disaster’ EP, The Buoys continue to develop a more mature style of pop songwriting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fun as all hell, but the lyricism, hooks, and production have all improved significantly. Considering how far they’ve come in such a brief period of time, it’s kinda scary to think what they’ll be doing in a couple of years from now.
Following up on the punchy ‘Bad Habit’, ‘Lie To Me Again’ slows things down a bit. Zoe Catterall’s raw vocals kick things off with a lone guitar, pulling you in with an arresting sense of intimacy. From here, the track burns slowly into an unexpected anthem. Choruses build upon one another, while searing guitar solos cut like a warm knife through butter.
The result is The Buoys’ most memorable single to date. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll give it a listen. And keep an ear out for their upcoming EP, due out October 13.
